Character Analysis

David Meade is what some might consider untrustworthy and unreliable. Meade had previously declared on his website that “the world would end on September 23rd” (Mahita 1). This was the original post that got the Niribu rumors and conspiracies started, but he later said that he was mistaken and “Sept. 23 actually marked a day that would set into motion a series of catastrophic events that would eventually lead to Earth’s demise” (Mahita 1). The new date he set was October 15th. Meade made repeated claims on when the rapture would occur and supposedly changed his mind on the theory many times. Although David Meade is very intelligent and a religious man, his constant groundless claims about the end of the world have confused people and started multiple new conspiracy theories based on deceptive and inaccurate misinformation.

David Meade’s intelligence helped his accountability and was one of the reasons why people supported him and believed his conspiracy theories despite the fact that he was untrustworthy. According to an interview on Glenn Radio with David Meade he used “Stellarium astronomical software” from his “background in cryptography” to prove that God was “signaling” through the constellations that the end of the world was coming (Meade 1). He also states in the interview that he has researched the “Nebra Sky Disk” an “archaeological discovery from Germany” that led him to believe that Nibiru had previously “occurred about 3,700 years ago” (Meade 1). Meade has also written many informational books including, Planet X- The 2017 Arrival, Will Planet X Signal the Rapture?, Comet Ison and The Return of Jesus, Rapture 2025 and Planet X, and many more (Meade 1). All this proves that he genuinely studied what he indoctrinated and although he used his genius less constructively, he successfully convinced people of what he believed.

David Meade is a very religious man and he wholeheartedly believed what he preached. David Meade is Catholic and used Bible verses to back up many of the claims he was making. Meade stated that one passage in the Bible, Revelations 12:1-2, suggests that “the constellations Virgo, Leo and Serpens-Ophiuchus represent a unique once-in-a-century sign” and claims that this will happen “exactly as depicted in the 12th chapter of Revelation.” (Gough 1). Meade also says in an interview that the collision of “Planet X or Wormwood, as stated in Revelation 8” would start the “seven-year period of tribulations known as the Day of the Lord” (Meade 1). He also referenced multiple Bible verses in Revelations to predict that “Planet X will land in one of the oceans of Earth and will only wipe out one-third of the human population” (Meade 1). These references to the Bible characterize David Meade as not only a scientific man but also a religious one.

It is safe to say that David Meade is an interesting man because of his many differing characteristics such as his religious affiliation, intelligence, and untrustworthiness. It is possible people were drawn to the intellect of Meade or the fact that he shared religious beliefs with some people and that is what led them to believe his conspiracies. Still, the fact is he is not a reliable source and he can’t be trusted more than anyone else to give answers on when and what will happen at the end of the world.
